How much does the test cost?

Our fee is $85 due at the time of booking an appointment. Please refer to the additional information below for further details.

 

Eligibility Requirements

    • Must hold a Michigan Level 1 learner’s license for at least 6 months prior to road test

    • Must have a Michigan Segment II completion certificate

    • Must have 50 hours of supervised driving with a licensed adult over 21 which includes 10 hours at night. This can be from the Michigan Supervised Driving Log or written format. The log should include dates, number of hours/minutes and a designation of day versus night driving for each entry. The log should be totaled for the examiner to review during your driver test.

    • Drivers can take the road test prior to the age of 16, but will not be eligible to obtain a license from the Secretary of State until 16 years of age.

    • You must have a Temporary Instruction Permit (TIP) and practice driving for at least 30 days with a licensed adult driver prior to the test date (unless waived by the Secretary of State).

    • Previously licensed drivers who are able to obtain a Driving Skills Test Authorization Receipt (DSTAR) may be eligible to have the 30-day holding requirement waived. This is determined by the Secretary of State branch office.

  • Michigan standards require a road-worthy vehicle for a driver skills test. The driver will not be allowed to test in a vehicle with defective safety equipment. Please verify that all components are in working order prior to the test date.

    • Brakes and break lights-this includes the center-mounted rear brake light on 1986 or newer vehicles

    • All tires should be properly inflated with no cords showing and no more than 1 missing lug nut

    • Headlights

    • Left and Right front turn signals, Left and Right back turn signals

    • Horn

    • Left outside and inside rear view mirrors

    • Speedometer

    • All doors must work inside and outside

    • Safety belts for all occupants 

    • Windshield wipers

    Please Note: If a vehicle's windshield is cracked in that it obstructs the driver's view, a road test cannot be administered


  • What does an under the age of 18 individual need to bring to the road test?

    • Graduated Level Once License

    • Segment 2 Certificate of Completion

    • A complete Michigan Supervised Driving Log documenting 50 hours of driving; 10 hours must be at night. See Eligibility Requirements for details.

    • Proof of current vehicle insurance and registration

    • A parent or legal guardian. If a parent or legal guardian is unable to accompany the driver to the test, a written document must accompany the driver coming with a licensed adult over the age of 21. 

    • There are no other passengers allowed in the vehicle with the exception of the driver, the examiner and the parent or legal guardian. Please plan accordingly in relation to weather.

    What does an individual 18 or older need to bring to the road test?

    • Michigan Temporary Instruction Permit

    • Photo identification or legal documentation which confirms your identity

    • Proof of current vehicle insurance and registration

    • If you are 18 years old and older, no additional people are permitted to ride in the vehicle during the road test. The only exception is a translator if one is needed. Please plan accordingly in relation to the weather.

    Individuals from out of the state or country:

    • Driving Skills Test Authorization Receipt (DSTAR)

    • Out-of-state/foreign driver’s license

    • Proof of current vehicle insurance and registration
